Nat Davies and Chatswood Design are one of the combinations to compete in the Triequithon
On the 5th April Racing Victoria and their Off the Track programme, which supports and promotes the post racing lives of thoroughbred horses, will come together as one at the Mornington Race Course in Victoria
They will showcase a new format of eventing competition called “Triequithon” to be run between races. The competition will demonstrate to racegoers, owners and trainers how thoroughbreds can go on to have a successful career after racing and that their athleticism and versatility makes them the ideal eventing horse.
The modified One Day Event format has seen Olympian Barry Roycroft and his wife Lyn craft the dressage test for competitors, Ewan Kellett has taken the time to build the cross country course and make sure that the ground is in ideal condition for the day and the showjumping phase will be run in reverse order at the end of the competition to make for an exciting finale. The scoring will be made easy to understand for the racing crowd with penalties making up the score and the lowest score winning.
Paul Chow, Triequithon organiser says “Racing Victoria through the Off the Track program has been a great supporter of the event and has really come to the party with getting all this promoted. Mornington Racing Club has also been fantastic in assisting the setup of the event with TV coverage of all three phases”
Well known Victorian eventing rider Natalie Davies, will be competing her seven year old brown mare, Chatswood Design, which will be competing under her racing name of Yasmac on the day. Yasmac, by Testa Rosa raced 12 times and was trained by Jason Warren. Natalie purchased Chatswood Design about a year ago as a horse competing at Preliminary level of eventing and the mare is now competing at 1 Star level with great success.
Nat is excited to promote the sport of eventing in the public eye and says the Triequithon is a fantastic idea! The generous prize pool totalling to $15,000 is also a keen incentive for Nat and the other riders.
In recent years Racing Victoria has shown growing support for thoroughbreds that have come off the track in all disciplines. The 2014 Triequithon is a great stepping stone for the racing industry and public to recognise how fantastic these horses can be after their racing days are over.
The inaugural Racing Victoria Off the Track Triequithon takes place on Saturday, 5 April from 12:30pm to 5:30pm at Mornington racecourse. Click on the image below to find out more
