Melbourne 3DE Fundraiser 2013

Amanda Ross enjoyed the sunshine at MI3DE in June but will be a bit colder this weekend

Yesterday the weather in Melbourne was delightful – nearly 23 degrees and almost a record for July. I started to believe that the gods were on my side – after all, the weather throughout the Melbourne International 3 Day Event in June was positively (and unusually) balmy – and the prospect of a good weekend coming up for the Melbourne International 3 Day Event Fundraiser was tantalising.

However it is not to be. It is going to be a chilly 11 degrees at Werribee Park this weekend folks and the chance of storms on Saturday. Great.

Ah well it is for a good cause. In fact two good causes. The event, which is run annually to raise funds towards the operational costs of the running the following year’s Melbourne International 3DE, this year is also raising funds for eventing rider Ricky Bannister who was recently seriously injured in a riding accident.

The event caters for classes from Introductory to CNC 1* and there are plenty of entries with three divisions in the Introductory and Preliminary, two divisions in the Pre-Novice and 20 riders in the CNC 1*. The event also incorporates the Victorian Interschool Championship Horse Trials Qualifier so there will be lots of younger riders looking for qualification for the National Interschools Championship in October.

Dressage will take place on Saturday and showjumping is scheduled for all Introductory classes and Preliminary Divisions 1 & 2 while the rest of the classes show jump on Sunday as well as cross country for everyone.

While I dig out my thermals, here are some happy snaps from this year’s Melbourne International 3 Day Event to remind us what it’s all for. Don't forget you can also view our cross country videos from Melbourne International 3 Day Event 2013 here
