Australia to host Young Rider Oceania team’s competition for Eventing

An Oceania Eventing competition for Young Riders (formerly the Trans-Tasman) will be held at this year’s Melbourne International Horse Trials as part of the event’s CCI2* class.

It will be the first time since 2012 that the two nations have gone head to head in a Young Rider team’s event and on that occasion New Zealand won the clash of the two nations on their home soil.

The Australians will be eager to break the Kiwi’s winning streak with the visitors claiming victory in each of the past three outings (Christchurch 2012 and 2010, Camperdown 2009).

Equestrian Australia CEO said the Oceania Eventing competition for Young Riders would be an added drawcard to this year’s Melbourne International Horse Trials.

“Australia and New Zealand share a friendly rivalry and the competition between the two nations is sure to be supported from spectators attending this year’s event.

“The event will be a great opportunity for promising young riders of both nations to experience a team’s competition.

“We look forward to welcoming New Zealand to our shores for the Oceania Eventing team’s competition for Young Riders,” he said.

The Australian senior and young rider teams which take on New Zealand in the series will be comprised of four members and a reserve and will be supported by a Chef d-Equipe and vet.

Expressions of interest from riders wishing to be considered for the Australian team are now being called for. Visit the EA website for details.

The Melbourne International Horse Trials will be held from 6-9 June at the Werribee Park National Equestrian Centre.
