With the extremely hot weather forecast for Melbourne this weekend the organisers of the Pakenham Horse Trials have decided to cancel their event scheduled for Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd February. Temperatures are set to rise to 36 degrees on Saturday and up to 43 degrees on Sunday in the rural bush area where the event is held
The Pakenham Horse Trials organising committee met last night and decided to postpone the event saying
“Our decision is based on the forecast extreme weather conditions and the fire risk ratings for both days. Our primary concern is the welfare of the competitors, horses, volunteers and officials required to run such an event.
We felt it was best to make this decision early enough to ensure that those who were travelling to our event had sufficient notice.
We are finalising a new date, potentially 8-9th March and will advise you all, as soon as we can confirm”
It has been a difficult start to the season in Victoria with one of the major events at Tonimbuk Horse Trials being cancelled due to the sale of the venue at Tonimbuk Equestrian Centre. The Tonimbuk Horse Trials committee are hoping to come to an arrangement with the new owners and re-schedule the event.
However, the Tonimbuk CIC event would have taken place on 8th/9th March, leaving a spot free on the calendar for Pakenham Horse Trials to hopefully slot into
An Eventful Life was to cover the Pakenham Horse Trials and video all riders during the cross country phase; should the event be re-scheduled to March 8th/9th we’ll see you then!
