President of TIE, Sharmayne Spencer, together with her daughter Reece help out at a working bee
While most of us are focused on what is happening on the other side of the world the busy team on the Tamworth International Eventing committee are keeping the work schedule on track as they look forward to their event this coming weekend – 5/6 August.
This will be the first time the committee have run an event on ‘home territory’ at the amazing AELEC venue in Tamworth, having previously run three events at the Quirindi grounds to raise funds for the Tamworth course.
“We are really looking forward to running this event,” said TIE President Sharmayne Spencer. “We have all put a lot of work into getting the course ready and with the likes of Tich Massey (Course Designer from New Zealand) and Daryl Burgess working together the event is sure to be a big success.”
Tamworth is primarily known for it’s big country music festival and the people at TIE have kept that in mind producing the ‘Golden Guitar’ (pictured above) which will be used on the cross country course.
With AELEC being close to lots of accommodation and restaurant options (I hear the Cascada restaurant is an option not to miss) riders and supporters should be able to enjoy everything the Tamworth area has to offer and I’m sure there might even be a bit of country music coming from a few trucks – just to get into the spirit of things.

John Lechner will be our roving reporter at Tamworth, covering the event across all grades from the EvA 80 to the CIC3* so make sure you say hi if you see him. And in case you don’t know John (although from the way he has been tweeting during the Olympics I think the whole eventing world at large will know him) he will be the one with a camera attached to his waist, an i-Pad in one hand, a laptop under his arm whilst tweeting from his phone!
