Tim and Lord Limmerick were leading the CIC 1* after dressage
You may be forgiven for thinking that Tim Boland had a good weekend at the NSW State Eventing Championships last weekend. Indeed he won the Prydes Easifeeds Preliminary B riding Dynamic and was second on Umunga in the CIC 1*but, riding Lord Limmerick, who led the CIC 1* after the dressage, Tim had a crashing fall at Fence 5 on cross country day.
Undeterred he hopped on Dynamic straight after for the showjumping to win the Prelim class and drove home; only to discover he had broken his right wrist and fractured the T1 and T2 vertebrae in his back!
“I cannot believe it” said Tim today “This was meant to be a quiet run before Canberra Horse Trials and part of our lead up to Adelaide”
He admits that he had a sneaking suspicion that his injuries were quite bad and says
“I feel very lucky. The horse rolled on me twice and it could have been a lot worse”
He will now spend six weeks in a brace supporting his neck, back and lower ribs and will miss out on competing at the Australian International 3 Day Event in November. He is sure he’ll be back in the saddle for 2013 however
It’s been a roller coaster of a year for Tim who travelled to the UK as a Reserve for the Australian Olympic eventing team, missed out on a run at Burghley due to a small injury to his horse GV Billy Elliot but had a top 10 finish at Blenheim Palace International Horse Trials just before returning home
