Megan Jones draws attention to Australian 3 Day Event 2013

Olympic silver medallist Megan Jones always likes to help out with promoting the Australian International 3 Day Event - and on the weekend she did just that in a very distinctive style. We’ve seen horses covered in body paint but this time it was the rider’s turn to be painted by Adelaide body artist Emma Hack

Megan spent six hours being covered in body paint to create the illusion of wearing a full dressage gear when in fact she was wearing just her underwear. Riding her Olympic mount Kirby Park Jester, who was officially retired from top level competition at last year’s Australian International 3 Day Event, Megan took to the streets of Adelaide to promote the event

“I was freezing!” says Megan but of course it was worth it for her ‘local’ event.

Her husband James Deacon, who has kindly shared his photos with us, was keeping an eye on the process

“It was truly amazing to watch it all unfold. The more paint that went on the happier I became......, I already have to share most her with fans, sponsors and the public so I wanted to keep some of her to myself. Needless to say the 'paint removal' process was much more enjoyable for yours truly!”

Megan, who won silver at the Beijing Olympics in Hong Kong in 2008 riding Jester, narrowly missed out on competing at London 2012 when her horse Kirby Park Allofasudden developed a foot problem just before the start of competition.

Howver she and Kirby Park Allofasudden will be competing at this year’s Australian International 3 Day Event in the 4* class with her sights set on Normandy and Rio – but she will be wearing a few more clothes!
