New horse power for top equestrians

Two of the equestrian world’s biggest stars are among the first drivers in the UK to take delivery of the all-new Mitsubishi Outlander.

Eventer Mary King MBE and dressage rider Charlotte Dujardin OBE – both members of the Team GB’s triumphant equestrian squad at London 2012 – were presented with their stunning new cars after joining the carmaker as its new brand ambassadors.

Mary, who has represented Great Britain at six Olympic Games, winning two silver medals and one bronze, and Charlotte, a double gold medallist at London, will both represent the brand at a number of events throughout the year, including the world renowned Mitsubishi Motors Badminton Horse Trials.

In the meantime, they will both put their striking new 4x4s to good use as they crisscross the country competing at the highest level, teaching the next generation of talent and gearing up for their own discipline’s forthcoming European Championships and, of course, the Rio Olympics in 2016.

“I already feel a great connection to the Mitsubishi brand as I won the really big Mitsubishi trophy when the company first started sponsoring the Badminton Horse Trials. It’s a great honour to have such a wonderful car to drive. It’s lovely as a sports person to focus on the horses and not have any worries about getting from A to B and having the support of such a well known company behind me gives me time to focus on my horses and competing.”

Meanwhile, Charlotte (pictured above) – one of the leading lights of Team GB’s London success – admitted she’s been blown away by the backing from Mitsubishi after being presented with the keys to her Outlander GX5.

“Being given a car of this quality is absolutely overwhelming,” said Charlotte. “I used to drive an Audi A3 and it was a real struggle to fit all my riding gear in and I also found it really daunting driving down the country lanes near my home in the winter weather. Now there will be no stopping me and I’ll be able to rock up at shows and events in a really, really nice car.”

Lance Bradley, Managing Director of Mitsubishi Motors in the UK, said:

“Mitsubishi Motors in the UK is a long-standing supporter of British equestrianism through our sponsorship of the Mitsubishi Motors Badminton Horse Trials and other major events. We are therefore delighted to be embarking on an exciting new relationship with two of the most successful and respected names in equestrianism.

Having Mary and Charlotte on board will underline our commitment to equestrian sports and expose the Mitsubishi line-up to an even broader audience. The new Outlander is the perfect vehicle for people with active lifestyles like Mary and Charlotte as it combines space, comfort, performance and efficiency.”
