Supreme Rock, the horse that helped Pippa Funnell win the only Rolex Grand Slam so far and a firm favourite in the hearts of many, was put to sleep yesterday.

The 25 year old 16.3hh gelding by Edmund Burke was retired in 2005 after an illustrious career which included back to back Badminton triumphs (2002 and 2003), team silver at Sydney 2000 (where many of his Australian fans enjoyed seeing him) and team bronze at the World Equestrian Games in Jerez in 2002.

Since his retirement he has been enjoying life on the hunting field, a fitting retirement pastime for an Irish Sport Horse, with his owner Emma Pitt.

In an article by Horse & Hound Pippa says “He was the turning point for me. I was just incredibly lucky to have had him and incredibly grateful to Emma and her family to have given me the opportunity."

May he RIP in that happy hunting ground in the sky
