A big week at SIEC

This coming week Sydney Eventing will host their biggest ever summer event at SIEC. With events running mid-week (Tuesday and Wednesday) as well as Saturday and Sunday, riders will be kept busy competing in classes ranging from newcomers to 3 star, including combined training classes. The event has certainly attracted some of Australia’s best horses and riders who will have their first run for the year as they prepare for selection for the Australian team to compete at The World Championships in Normandy, France. The event also gives young riders and pony club riders the chance to rub shoulders with these elite riders  … and very often beat them!

Shane Rose will be out and about at Sydney

“It’s always great to see Olympians, like Stuart Tinney and Shane Rose competing in amongst our grass roots riders and it’s never a foregone conclusion as to who will win the top prize. On that topic we have some fantastic prize money and prizes up for grabs this week thanks to our wonderful sponsors. On board for the first time this year as a major sponsor is Rosehip Vital Equine and everyone will have the opportunity to find out more about this amazing product by visiting their trade stand at the event. Ariat is the title sponsor for the midweek summer eventing classic, while Randwick Equine Centre is the title sponsor for the weekend summer eventing classic. Mitavite have always been major supporters of Sydney Eventing and we welcome back Kyle and his team and thank them for their continued loyal and significant support. Indeed we thank all our sponsors, volunteers and team who go into running this huge event. The team is too big to name everyone but special thanks to our wonderful event secretary , Rosemary Allen. Her dedication is unbelievable and words are not enough.”

Tim Boland (above) will be hoping that the heavy rain seen at last year's event
will not make an appearance until after next weekend

Ewan Kellett has been welcomed back to Sydney as course designer and Tim tells us he has come up with some interesting, but kind tracks which have been designed to kick start the season for both horses and riders on a positive and confident note.

Throughout the course of the year the ground team at SIEC do a wonderful job in preparing the ground to a very high standard, which Tim was very quick to note. “Those guys deserve a huge amount of praise for the work they do. There has been no worthwhile rain since before our last event in July last year and because of that a lot of water has had to be put out on the course and spiking has been carried out across all levels. I am quite certain that this will be the best ground we have run on in a long time and maybe for the foreseeable future as well.”

The Video team from An Eventful Life will be at Sydney’s weekend event to catch the cross country round of every rider so we look forward to seeing you next week.
