Finally, it is official Shane and Taurus have been selected to the Australian Eventing Team for the 2012 London Olympic Games. Shane is thrilled to be selected onto the team and is looking forward to joining Clayton and Lucinda Fredericks, Andrew Hoy and Chris Burton on the team. Shane, Arvey (Taurus) and super groom Michelle Robson have begun their journey to the other side of the world. They left for Melbourne at 4am on Tuesday morning (3rd July) and will board a UK bound flight today, (4th July). Also on the trip to Melbourne ,and ultimately the UK, was Tim Boland’s GV Billy Elliot and they will be joined in Melbourne by Megan Jones and her horse Kirby Park Allofasudden. Since our last newsletter Shane has had some great results with his team of horses at the Equestriad CIC at Camden Statford Neo finished an impressive third in the tough CIC3*, APH Mortiz finished fifth in the same class and Virgil was second in the CIC2*.
APH Moritz headed to Melbourne International Horse Trials which was the last selection event (for Australian based riders) for the Olympic Games so everyone was out to impress the selectors. APH Moritz performed exceptionally well to place 2nd in the very competitive CCI3* and it was great to have most of Moritz’s owners in Melbourne to see him perform so well. Soigne Jackson rode Gold in the CCI3* and finished a fantastic 4th in the tough class.
At the Melbourne event Shane and Arvey (Taurus) also performed the 4* Olympic Dressage test for the Ground Jury, they did a good test but still with lots of room for improvement. Shane and Arvey were still convincing winners of the dressage section of the class, which included fellow Olympic shadow squad horses.
Michelle Robson rode Niki’s Wallstrasse at Hawkesbury Dressage, (pictured above - thanks to Franz Venhaus for the photo). This was Michelle’s first attempt at Advanced level. They put together two great tests to place 2nd and 5th in the 5B and 5C.
While Shane and Michelle are away for the Olympic Games Niki, Rachel, Laura, Soigne, Will and Gordy are hard at work to ensure it is business as usual at Bimbadeen Park.
