No doubt Lucinda Fredericks is celebrating her spot on the Australian Olympic eventing team named this morning but she is not the only Lucinda in Britain who is celebrating.
The winning bidder of the first online auction for one of Headley’s Britannia’s foals, Britannia’s Jewel (Ruby) was Lucinda Hawkins-Adams who has collected her from the Fredericks at Rosegarth after a nail-biting end to the unique auction.
Lucinda Hawkins-Adams commented "It’s every owners and breeders dream to be given the winning ticket for Britannia’s Jewel. We are thrilled Ruby is coming to us and are massively grateful to Lucinda and Clayton for giving us this wonderful opportunity"
This auction was a trial approach of offering international breeders and owners access to high end, well bred young horses from elite performance mares and was the brainchild of Clayton Fredericks and Uptown Eventing’s Rachel Wakefield and Michael Wynne. The winning bid was 11,500 GBP from a total of 13 bids
Clayton commented “Everyone at Team Fredericks is extremely pleased with the outcome of the auction and feel very happy that Ruby has gone to a lovely home. Following the auction success we intend to do it again with other youngsters from elite performance mares. I believe this auction gives purchasers a unique opportunity to buy exciting young-stock and I feel very optimistic about the future success.”
The auction was organised by Rachel and Michael, who run Uptown Eventing, sales agents who specialise in top class international event horses
Uptown Eventing’s Rachel Wakefield added, "We were delighted with the outcome of the auction; it was quite nerve wracking at the last minute as three bidders were in the race to buy Britannia's Jewel. We had over 2,000 people watching the auction in the last hour so we are delighted with the way the sale went. Lucinda (Hawkins-Adams) was so excited when she found out she'd won Ruby which was lovely. We were delighted that Team Fredericks asked us to work with them on the sale of this exceptionally well bred foal and we look forward to collaborating over future auctions”.
