Just in time for Christmas frozen semen will be arriving in Australia from the exciting young stallion Wish Upon A Star by Gribaldi who is recognised as one of the most successful Trakehner stallions in modern equestrian sport.
Gribaldi is the sire of dressage superstar Moorlands Totilas and also Painted Black formerly ridden by Anky Van Grunsven.
Wish Upon A Star is owned by Carolyn Bates of the world renowned Grafham Stud in the UK (also home of top eventing sire Jumbo - see details in our recent breeding feature). Wizard, as he is known, was purchased by Carolyn in Holland as a two year old on account of his outstanding conformation, lovely bloodlines and super jump.
Produced as a four year old he passed both the Sport Horse and British Warmblood gradings with flying colours. The same year he made a great start to his competition career by winning his Burghley Young Event Horse (YEH) qualifier, scoring an amazing 15 out of 15 for conformation.
As a five year old he evented at limited outings, winning twice and gaining three second and two third placings, also qualifying for Burghley YEH again where he finished fourth in a hotly contested final. All this was combined with a busy stud season at home proving what an exceptional temperament he has, switching easily between covering and competing.
As a six year old he gained points in eight of his nine eventing runs with two CIC 1 Star wins and a double clear in his first Intermediate event. Finishing the season on 48 points, he was well on his way to Advanced.
By this time that his first foals were on the ground, proving to be correct, typey, athletic and rarely chestnut!
In 2010 Wizard upgraded to Advanced with Lucy Wiegersma placing second at Tattersalls CCI in Ireland. By now he was on the radar of many serious sport horse breeders and limited outings, due to large books of mares, have seen him achieve wins at Barbury International in 2011 and Aston-Le-Walls Advanced in 2012.
