Britain’s successes at major events this year have included silver at the Longines FEI European Championships at Blair Castle, winning the FEI Nations Cup Eventing Series, team and individual gold, plus individual silver from the European Young Rider Championships and team bronze from the European Junior Championships in Poland.
But it isn’t just the elite level of the sport which is going well as, for the first time in British Eventing history, their membership has passed the 15,000 mark. This is largely due to increased participation levels at BE80, BE90 and BE100 level and the great success of the day passes as a way of increasing the accessibility of the sport
New initiatives to grow involvement in the lower levels of the sport such as the Kent & Masters Arena Eventing Championships and TopSpec Corinthian Cup have also been a great success, according to BE Chief Executive David Holmes who is expecting that these initiatives will grow in popularity in the future, similar to the very popular Mitsubishi Motors Cup at Badminton.
David, who took over from Mike Etherington-Smith in May this year, has summarised the main initiatives and successes of British Eventing in 2015 and aims for the future in his end of season message to the British Eventing Membership – read his full message here
