Bruno Bouvier dies in fall at Barroca d' Alva

The FEI has issued the following statement;

It is with the deepest regret that we announce that Mr Bruno Bouvier (FRA) suffered a fatal accident at 15.30 today (2 March 2013) while competing at the CIC2* in Barroca d’Alva (POR). Mr Bouvier, aged 60, and the 10-year-old gelding Arcilloso III, had a rotational fall at fence 5, a triple brush, which resulted in fatal injuries to the rider. The horse was uninjured in the fall.
 
At every FEI event, the maximum consideration is given to the safety and welfare of riders and horses.
 
Event Director Mr Nicholas Melbourne Hart and President of the Ground Jury Mr José Miguel Mexia de Almeida expressed their profound regret. "On behalf of the whole sport, we would like to extend our deepest sympathy to Bruno Bouvier's family and to all his friends in the equestrian world.”
 
A police inquiry into the accident has been launched.
