The top three riders in 2012 - William Fox-Pitt, Andrew Nicholson and Sinead Halpin
The top three place getters at this year’s Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials will get the lion’s share of increased prize money.
The owner of the winning horse at this year’s Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials will receive a cheque for £60,000 as well as the coveted Land Rover Perpetual Challenge Cup. This is an increase on last year of £5,000, which in turn was a £5,000 increase on 2011
The prizes for second and third place have also risen; to £42,000 for second and to £32,000 for third, an increase of 20% in two years
A further £15,000 prize fund will also be shared between the top five riders. This is allocated so that the winning rider receives £5,000, second placed rider £4,000 and so on.
“We are delighted that we have been able to increase our prize fund,” said Burghley Horse Trials Director Elizabeth Inman. “Rather than spread the increase thinly all the way down the line it was agreed that the lions share should be allocated to the top three prize winners in recognition of their outstanding achievement.”
The Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials will also be the final event of the FEI HSBC Classics Series. The five riders with the highest number of points collected across the six HSBC FEI Classics events will share a total prize fund of US$333,000. Andrew Nicholson currently has an unassailable lead in the Series. However there are still 65,000 reasons for him to want to win at Burghley again this year
