The Horse Grooming Manual - essential reading

The Yorkshire Riding Centre produces not only great eventing riders and coaches such as Christopher Bartle but now also offers some great advice about grooming in the new book by Alison Pocklington BHSI (SM)

Alison, who has been an integral part of the Yorkshire Riding Centre’s team since 1987, has competed in eventing up to advanced level, groomed for many years at international level and has prepared pupils for BHS exams up to Stable Manager level.

Her new book, The Horse Grooming Manual, provides essential horse care advice for anyone interested in developing his or her knowledge and expertise.  The practical advice for establishing good grooming practice is accompanied by 300 step-by-step colour photos to illustrate techniques.

“My fondest memories are not of riding and competing but of the time I spent caring for my pony” says Alison “The enjoyment I derived from this remains with me and I am fortunate enough to have made a career out of what I love doing – grooming and caring for horses”

“There are many aspects of grooming other than the obvious reason of improving the appearance of the horses. This book explores other areas which relate to grooming such as horse health, horse psychology and basic handling as well as turning out for competition”

“It is a book that all horse owners should be able to relate to, from the pony mad child to those who ride for pleasure and will be useful for those who want to learn more about the professional care required to produce healthy horses looking their best for competition and the show ring”

The Horse Grooming Manual was launched on 11th December at a price of £19.99 by The Crowood Press and books are now available through the Yorkshire Centre
