Andrew Nicholson and Avebury enjoy their historic third win at Burghley in 2014
Chris Hodson QC, Chair of Equestrian Sports New Zealand, has had a busy Sunday addressing the current Andrew Nicholson situation on New Zealand radio
In the interview below Chris explains why Andrew Nicholson was not included on the recent ESNZ High Performance Eventing Squad and his hopes that Andrew will hopefully be back on the squad in the future saying
“There are some things that would have to happen and next week, when we have them all lined up, we’ll be telling him exactly what has to happen, hopefully they will happen and he’ll be back in”
(The interview starts at about four minutes in)
In another interview on Radio Live New Zealand Chris again says that he ‘very much hopes that this situation is resolved’ and explains the reasons why Andrew would not be eligible for selection by another country for the Rio Olympics
“It can only be bad joke” says Chris of the ‘possibly tongue in cheek suggestion’
“Under the Olympic rules he can’t. He rode for New Zealand in August 2014 and, under Olympic rules he cannot ride for another country until three years have gone by”
You can hear the interview on this link in the next seven days; choose the Sunday January 11th segment at 12:30pm
