CIC 2* at Le Haras du Pin – Saturday

      Lucinda Fredericks and Shelter Cove

It was a busy day at Le Pin au Haras with 129 competitors in the CIC 2* showjumping, the CIC 3* World Cup dressage completed in the morning and the World Cup cross country in the afternoon. The wind grew stronger in the morning with the occasional fence being blown down on the CIC 2* showjumping course and rapidly rebuilt before the next competitor; the showjumping is kept on schedule by the prompt entry of riders and often there are three riders in the arena at one time with one jumping, one leaving and one arriving!

Clayton Fredericks continued his good start here with a clear round on Brookleigh keeping him in the lead in the CIC 2* on a score of 36.9. Britain’s Pippa Funnell also went clear on Billy Landretti to stay in second place (37.9) and another clear round on the aptly named Billy Beware who is close behind on a score of 40 in fourth place (seen in the above video). Lucinda Fredericks has three horses in this class; Shelter Cove jumped clear to move up a few places to 13th but Rovello and Acheron unfortunately had a few rails to drop down the rankings. Sam Griffiths and the seven-year-old Favorit Z had two rails to finish the two phases in 43rd place.

Koyuna Sun Magic is a name that some will recognise as the Australian-bred horse previously ridden by Wendy Schaeffer. Wendy is based in the UK with Magic’s new rider, young British eventer David Doel and his mother Maggie – David and Magic had a lovely clear round showjumping today to finish in 8th place just ahead of Michael Jung riding Rocana FST.  With only 7.8 points between the top ten riders, tomorrow’s cross country will be an exciting finish for the CIC 2*.
