French show jumping rider Philippe Rozier riding Rahotep De Toscane celebrates a clear round with a fabulous fist punch and magnificent "BOUNCE" as they pass through the finish in the Individual Qualification for Jumping at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games
It was this photo which won the Aachen “Silver Camera” honouring outstanding photographic performances in the field of equestrian sport and is was taken by the inimitable New Zealand photographer Libby Law
101 entries were submitted by photographers from all over the world but Libby’s photo was given the nod for the top prize of 2,500 Euros by the judges Christophe Bricot (last year’s winner), Rob Ehrens (national coach of the Dutch show-jumpers), Andreas Müller (Executive Director of the Zeitungsverlag Aachen), Erich Timmermanns (Director Advertising & PR, Sparkasse Aachen) and Frank Kemperman (Chairman of the ALRV).
On Saturday July 22nd the three finalists gathered in the main stadium of Aachen Soers where it was announced that Libby’s photo had won the famous media prize with Arnd Bronkhorst (NED) and Eric Knoll (FRA) coming second and third. What a moment!
“It was such an amazing night!” says Libby “I was treated to the Aachen VIP Hospitality and taken in a horse drawn carriage to the ceremony. We were in the main arena with a huge crowd and cameras pointing at us by the brilliant photographers we have the absolute pleasure of working alongside for the huge hours we do - especially covering Aachen”
“My name was read out as the winner and my knees went wobbly, the tears were springing up, there were congratulations by the Sparkasse & Aachen executives, a lap of honour with the crowd cheering - it was beyond words - such an amazing moment!”
As Libby says, the hours that she does in her craft are enormous in all weathers to bring us the amazing images that we are proud to feature on our site.
Well done, Libby, it is a fantastic achievement and prestigious accolade that is very well deserved
