The Eventing Weekend Wrap

What was going on where, who did what and who won at equestrian events in the past few days

Weston Park International, UK (Oct 4th – 7th)

David Doel and Koyuna Sun Magic

The Weston Park International in Shropshire, UK incorporated the KBIS Festival of Youth, featuring a CCI 2** Young Rider class and a CCI 1* Junior class. David Doel riding the Australian horse Koyuna Sun Magic, previously campaigned by Wendy Schaeffer, won the Young Rider CCI 2*and Pippa Funnell, back in the saddle again, won the Intermediate 2* on Billy Beware

It was however a sad weekend at Weston Park when Emily King’s ride Apache Sauce had to be put to sleep after sustaining an injury on the cross country course. CLICK HERE for more

NSW Pony Club State One Day Event Championships (Oct 6th &7th)

Saturday saw some of the cross country classes cancelled due to horrendous weather conditions but the event proceeded as best as possible under the circumstances

Little Downham, UK (Sept 29th – Oct 1st)

UK Based Australian riders had some good results at Little Downham in Cambridgeshire last weekend. Paul Tapner won the Open Intermediate on Indian Mill on their dressage score of 30 while Kevin McNab riding Casperelli was fifth in a class that had plenty of big names and good horses. Other Aussies in this class were Bill Levett riding Silk Stone (12th), Sammi Mcleod riding Kintara (17th), Bill Levett riding Hippolyte (24th) and Chris Burton riding Kinnordy Rivaldo and Underdiscussion in 34th and 35th – looks like Chris may have been using it as a training day as both horses had lots of time on cross country but otherwise a good outing

In the Advanced Section T, won by William Fox-Pitt on the stallion Chilli Morning, Kevin McNab also placed 6th on Brookfield de Bouncer; Paul Tapner unfortunately parted company from Inonothing on the cross country but both are fine. William also won the Advanced Section S on Navigator (the horse we won’t be seeing him ride at Adelaide, more’s the pity) with Andrew Nicholson taking second on Mr Cruise Control and third on Quimbo.

In the Intermediate Sammi Mcleod was second on Shannondale Santiago, one of her three horses on the EA National Futures Squad

Lignieres, France (Oct 4th – 7th)

Nicholas Touzaint at Haras le Pin

Nicholas Touzaint held off the New Zealand assault but Tim Price and Vortex took third place in the CCI 2*
