Things get underway with FEI Steward Julane Bowen checking papers and microchips
What a perfect first day Berrima is providing for it’s competitors with a blue sky, sunny conditions and enough of a breeze to stop it being too muggy. With dressage and show jumping underway and lots of riders taking their first stroll out onto the cross country course there is an air of ‘all is well’ at Araluen – the venue for Berrima Horse Trials.
With those 3* riders hoping to make it onto the Trans Tasman team running at the Albury CIC3* in a couple of weeks the 3* entries at Berrima were quite small. However entries in the 2* class are good and as usual the lower levels have attracted large numbers.
Shane Rose and Shanghai Joe
Shane Rose is busy as usual with two rides in the Animal Company CIC2* and three in the EvA105 class. “Sadly Virgil isn’t here this weekend,” Shane told us. “He hurt himselfa little at Scone and needs a bit more time to recover but I’m sure Shanghai Joe is up to the challenge of doing a great job this weekend!”
Hamish Cargill (below) was also seen warming up for his dressage under the keen eye of local dressage coach Janice Usherwood.
Jade Findlay who had been out walking the cross country course was excited to get out there on her two 3* horses. “The course looks fantastic and the going is great. Quarry dust has been put down on the take offs and landings of the fences and it is so green out there. The committee have done a great job.”
Anthony Thomas riding the world cup showjumper Levitation NZPH - is this a new career for both horse and jocky?
we'll see if you can find out later today
Watch out for the latest scores from Berrima later tonight!
