Only the other week the call went out for donations for those horse owners who had been affected by the fires in Tasmania. This week our thoughts turn to those caught up in the flood-affected areas of New South Wales and Queensland.
Goods required include the following:
Halters
Lead Ropes
Rugs
Bandages
Medicated Wash
Hoof Care Products
Betadine/Yellow Lotion
Tuff Rock Poultice
Feed/Water Buckets
Temporary fencing Supplies
Horse Feed
It must be stressed that although second hand goods are happily accepted they must be clean and in good order. This is simply to help avoid any further spread of fungus/bacterial problems through hair, sweat or dirt that may be in the fabric of anything donated.
“These poor people are going to have enough to deal with and that is why we are asking for items to be in really good condition. Also we don't want to become a dumping ground for people just wanting to clean out their sheds - trust me.. it happens! And those up north will have enough rubbish to deal with so if we can make the goods as clean and in good order as possible it will go along way to help,” said Karen Hood at Heavy Horse Heaven who is helping with the Assistance Appeal.
“Ian from Glen Mia Saddlery at the Canberra Race Track has also happily agreed to be the drop off point,” explained Karen. “He is open from 9.00 - 5.30 Mon - Fri and 9.00 - 1.00pm Saturdays. Once we have gathered the goods I will liaise with Glen Mia and the North West Equine Rescue Inc to organise transport to get the goods to those who will distribute it for us up north. The Feed Shed in Bungendore is also a drop off point for any donations people are willing to make.”
As well as items you can also make a financial donation (tax deductible) to help the appeal. All donations will be used to help those horse owners in need at this time.
