Interview with Laura Wallace

She may be an eventer but she loves her dressage too - Laura and Bendigo at Wallaby Hill

New Zealand born eventing rider Laura Wallace went to the UK to compete in 2012 and is now back in Australia after experiencing a ‘big learning curve’.

Laura knows all about overcoming difficulties, having recovered from a broken neck in 2008 and then overcome the loss of her 3* horse, Sugoi in an accident whilst competing at Tattersalls in Ireland soon after arriving in the UK. In her first blog for us Laura shared that she missed her best friend Pete (Sugoi) every day however she stuck it out, enjoying her time in the UK, especially with ‘Uncle’ Blyth Tait at Lavender Hill where she was based.

In her first blog Laura also admitted that “It is no secret that eventing is a tough sport, and it is a fact that all of us acknowledge when we decide to pursue it as a full time career.”Laura is now once again at one of those crossroads that many have to face when looking down the track – should eventing be my career or a hobby?

We caught up with Laura at Wallaby Hill, where she was not only helping out but also enjoying the catch ride on Alex Townsend’s Bendigo, and talked about her experience in the UK and her plans for the future
