Lauren and Guido Hatzis
In a few days time the bubbly blonde Australian rider Lauren Balcomb will be boarding a plane for America to start a new chapter in her eventing career. 24 year old Lauren is heading to the USA to base herself and her horses with Boyd Martin, an old friend that she spent a short time with in America in 2008, but this time she is going for an ‘open ended’ period of time.
Boyd is not only a friend and coach for Lauren but he also bred Kootamootoo, the horse that Lauren had great success on as a young rider, including winning the CCI2* in Adelaide in 2008 and the CCI2* at the Sydney International 3 Day Event in 2011. However when she first heads to join Boyd’s yard the horses that will be flying over on March 7th will be two of her talented young team; Guido Hatzis and Lamondale Bisou
“It’s been a long road with Guido” Lauren tells us in this interview but now she feels that the ‘perfectly sculpted, toned and tanned’ 11 year old chestnut gelding, who was previously and incongruously known as Snowy, is ready for some international travel. If all goes well, two more of her four legged team will be flying over to join her at Windurra Farm in Unionville, Pennsylvania however Lauren’s first few weeks will spent in Aiken, Carolina where Boyd and his wife Silva base themselves during the North American winter
