South Australian Luke Jones is well known not only as a rider but also as an equestrian architect with a passion for designing innovative, contemporary buildings with a particular emphasis on environmental issues
We caught up with Luke at Lockington Horse Trials to find out how his past 4* horse, the now 22 year old Soul, is going and discover more about the two off the track thoroughbreds, Music and Proclaimer, that he was competing there but we also wanted to talk ‘architecture’
As well as being involved with the design and development of one of our favourite equestrian properties, Boneo Park in Victoria, Luke’s company c4 Architects has been busy with more recent projects including being a key part of a syndicate awarded the contract for the new Victorian Mounted Police branch.
Luke’s own experience with horses is obviously a huge asset in designing these purpose built facilities, whether as an overall concept or down to the finer details, but he has to admit that his own stables “are not that flash!”
