New Zealand rider Megan Heath was one of the first timers at the Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials this year. Megan only took up eventing five years ago, having started in show jumping, and has been based at Mark Todd’s yard until recently
In 2005 Megan moved from New Zealand to the UK to further her career in banking and, since acquiring her horse St Daniel from German Olympic gold medallist Peter Thomsen in 2010, things have gone from strength to strength. The 13-year-old German bred Hanoverian gelding is a full brother to Shamwari, previously ridden by Ludwig Svennerstal and who recently finished eighth at the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games in Normandy ridden by Boyd Martin
In 2012 Megan and St Daniel were 15th at Lumuhlen four-star and Megan was awarded the HSBC training bursary for the highest placed four-star debut. In 2013 the pair completed their first Badminton.
We talked to Megan after her dressage test about how she came to eventing, her horse St. Daniel and how she fits it all in with her full time job in banking
