Jackson and Visionaire at the first horse inspection at Puhinui International Horse Trials
Jackson Bovill certainly made an impression at Puhinui International Horse Trials riding the nine year old bay mare Visionnaire in the CCI2* Young Rider class. The pair led from the start with a good dressage test that left Jackson very happy
“It’s not often that I walk out of a test and think ‘That was great, I really enjoyed that’ but this weekend I definitely had that feeling”
They led the class on a dressage score of 51.90 and the ‘cross country machine’ that Jackson was sitting on added nothing to it during the cross country phase.
There was therefore plenty of pressure on the young man, who turned just 19 during the event, as he cantered into the large show jumping arena on the Sunday and the three rails that fell cost them the title but still left them in second place
Until this point in 2015 they had only had one rail down in the show jumping phase at CIC1* and 2* level so Jackson was obviously disappointed but also philosophical about their show jumping round
“It’s the first time I’ve ridden under pressure like that and it’s going to take me a while to get used to it” he admits
We spoke to Jackson at Puhinui about the competition, his lovely horse Visionnaire and his aims for the future and since this interview Jackson has been named on the 2016 New Zealand Talent ID squad for 2016
