We do love finding out more about the people behind the microphones at some of the big events and their stories are often as interesting as the people they are covering. During the Melbourne International Horse Trials we spoke to Sarah Nevile-Lavingdale and at the Australian International 3 Day Event we found out more about British based Spencer Sturmey
Spencer stepped in at the last moment when the scheduled commentator Ed Holloway was unable to attend. Spencer’s visit to Adelaide, his first time in Australia, topped off an “absolute dream of a year” for the British rider, coach and commentator who has also been able to travel to the USA three times this year thanks to his eventing commentary
On the other hand things have not been so easy for his own riding career with Spencer suddenly losing his top horse this year due to a fatal bleed although he now has a promising new horse in the wings for next season. Spencer also still suffers from the side effects of having broken his neck – not once but three times! Find out more about Spencer and his love for the sport in our interview below
