Michael Jung and his young superstar horse Halunke (pictured above) lead the dressage at Boekelo after the first day on a great score of 32. This is the horse that won the CCI 3*World Cup in Le Pin and Michael has high hopes for him; they certainly were a pleasure to watch in all phases at Le Pin and the ground jury here composed of Sue Stewart, Eric Lieby, and Helen Christie seem to agree. Michael’s Olympic team mate Dirk Schrade is currently in second place riding Edino on a score of 41 and New Zealander Tim Price riding Wesko is in third place on 41.6. Tim certainly has his priorities right, saying on Twitter “Wesko delivered. Now Grolsch”

It seems that Chris Burton is now not competing here on Kinnordy Rivaldo so the Australian team consists of Catherine Burrell riding Urzan, Bill Levett and Ballymore Rich Cat and Sammi Mcleod on Kintara. Catherine did her dressage on Thursday to place 20th on a score of 51.20 while Bill and Sammi ride their dressage tests on Friday.
Mark Todd has plenty of fans here in Boekelo – he is currently in 26th place on Leonidas and will ride Quantum Leap tomorrow.
Leading the U.S. effort in FEI Nations Cup Eventing competition are Clark Montgomery and Loughan Glen (below). The pair scored 46.2 and arecurrently in 11th place.
“He was good, a little nervous at the beginning” said Clark of Loughan Glen “It took a few movements to get him settled but as the test went on he got more and more rideable,"
"The first few movements didn't score as well as I would have liked but he was great at the end."
Looking towards Saturday's cross country, Clark anticipates Boekelo's large crowds and terrain will be a factor.
"It's got some tight turns, narrow galloping lanes. It's not a walk in the park by any stretch. I think the combination of the galloping lanes, the amount of people, and they're saying there could be a little bit of rain, will mean it rides much differently than it walks."
