Riding Career

Mum bought me a pony before I was born so I had no choice really, I have always done eventing competing in my first Grade 5 Encourage when I was 5 years old to come 5th; I also did showing in between for a few years when I was younger.

Best performances

My most memorable wins were probably winning the Young Rider championships at Australian International 3DE in 2012 on Image Blue Ice, winning the South Australian Young Rider of the Year for two consecutive year 2012 and 2013, and Image Blue Ice winning the South Australian eventing horse of the year in 2013.

About Image Blue Ice

My best horse at the moment is Image Blue Ice who is a 9yr old gelding, grey, Irish sport horse by Kirby Park Irish Jordan. We purchased him from a stud in Echunga, SA when he was 3 years old. He’s a very, very special horse to me and it is always satisfying getting fantastic results such as being selected for the Oceania Team when Megan Jones (my coach) and I have done all the work on him together. Hopefully we have many more memorable wins together and a dream of going to the Games one day comes true.

Maddy is currently based in the Waikato with Clarke Johnstone but hails from Rakaia in Canterbury.   She attended Blenheim, Rakaia and Waihora pony clubs.  She competed in the Springston Trophy many times.

Maddy is a student at Lincoln University studying Commerce (Accounting & Finance).  In her third year, she is currently studying by distance but intends going back on campus full time in July to finish her degree.  She is yet to decide whether she will choose a career in commerce or in horses.

With Dad a polo player, it is no surprise that Maddy has been riding since she was six years old.  Her best result to date has been winning the New Zealand One Day Young Rider title this year.  She has been to Australia (Brisbane) before on holiday but has not yet visited Melbourne.

Brogan’s coaches are Penny Castle, Vanessa Way and Clarke Johnstone.

Brogan, stable name Wally, is a 12 year old who was produced by Annabel Wigley.   Maddy has been riding him for two years now.  He is by King of Kings, an Australian thoroughbred.
