Three of Maxime Livio’s top horses have headed to new homes at the end of the 2024 eventing season but remain very much under the guidance of the French rider and trainer.

One of France’s top riders, Maxime has been the long-time trainer for the Thai eventing team and two of his horses, the 12-year-old bay gelding Carouzo Bois Marotin and the 11-year-old Dragon de Hus, are now owned by the Thai Federation.

Thai and US riders take the reins

Thai rider Korntawat (Nat) Samran, who has lived and trained with Maxime for ten years, will take over the ride on Carouzo, Bois Marotin. who competed at Pau and Kentucky CCI5*’s in 2023 with Maxime for two top ten finishes. Korntawat will aim towards his first 5* start with Carouzo as well as having the Aachen 2026 World Championships and the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games.

Dragon de Hus, who has only recently stepped up to 4* level in eventing, is headed for a showjumping career, with the aim of being part of the Thai showjumping team at the Aichi and Nagoya 2026 Asian Games in Japan.

Api Du Libaire, who took seventh place in the CCIO4* Nations Cup competition at Lignieres at his last international start with Maxime in September will be heading to the USA.

Kentucky-based Alexa Thompson, who has trained with Maxime in France and continues to be part of his coaching programme (listen to our interview with Alexa here) will ride the 14-year-old grey gelding Api Du Libaire, who has several CCI4* wins under his belt.

It is very exciting for me, as a coach of Nat and Alexa, to be able to follow them and accompany them towards their objectives with horses that I have trained and that I know by heart” says Maxime in his newsletter “So it's with a lot of excitement that I look forward to the coming season”
