Annabel Wigley wins New Zealand Eventer of the Year 2012

Annabel Wigley was a comfortable winner of the Eventer of the Year aboard NRM Frog Rock at the 2012 New Zealand Horse of the Year Show at the Hawke’s Bay Equestrian Park, Hastings this weekend.

Second after the dressage in the Rush Munro’s CIC 3*, Wigley rode NRM Frog Rock inside the optimum time to move into the lead on their dressage score of 53.3, with Simon Gordon (Auckland) and Fletch.com moving up from fifth to be second on 55.4, also without incurring any time penalties. All but one of the 17 starters in the top division completed the course, with only one incurring jumping penalties, but Annabel on both her horses, and Simon were the only ones inside the optimum time on the John Nicholson designed course.

Annabel completed with a beautifully ridden showjumping round to finish 6.4 points ahead of the second-placed Donna Smith (Te Kauwhata) on Henton Executive.

A revised squad of seven combinations was named following the presentation, with the team of four to contest the Trans Tasman Trophy at Kihikihi at Easter weekend named immediately prior to the competition.

The New Zealand Trans Tasman Squad now comprises;

 Simon Gordon (Auckland), Fletch.com and Simply Mitch;

Brent Jury (Rangiora), SE Big;

Abby Lawrence (Te Puke), Pseudonym;

Donna Smith (Te Kauwhata), Henton Executive;
