Local Giles Gormack made it back-to-back victories aboard the lovely, Lucero, taking out the small CNC2* class on home turf at Eventing Canterbury’s Amberley One Day Horse Trial yesterday.

Third after the dressage, Gormack put in a bold performance across country despite the hard ground conditions to come home clear incurring just 1.2 time penalties. He was also clear in the showjumping, finishing on a score of 37.8 well clear of second-placed Amanda Brown (Rangiora) on Glenmark with 43.9.

Dressage leader Corey Wood slipped to third after picking up 20 penalties on the cross country for a refusal and also had two rails down in the showjumping to finish on 63.1. Disappointingly, Wellington visitor Danielle Wallace was forced to retire Dunurban Maotai after a clear cross country performance, and Rosanna Rankish and Playmaker were eliminated.

In the CNC1* Cust’s Brent Jury proved too strong aboard the starry SE Hedging, moving up from third after dressage to snare the spoils with a single time fault in the showjumping the only blemish on his score card.

Fresh from winning the Land Rover CIC3* at the Farmlands Horse of the Year Show in Hastings aboard Dambala Saturday, Emily Cammock (West Melton) was rewarded for her mad dash home finishing second with Cavorts and fifth on Ngahiwi Frostie on 37.9 and 44.4 penalties respectively. Jessie Fitzjohn and Whats The Buzz finished third.

The hotly-contested CNC105 went to youngster Amalia Rowley on Mexico II, moving up from ninth after dressage to win on 47.9. Monique Arthur on Nyiiad finished second with Jury on SE Back To Black third, in a competition where all but two combinations picked up penalties in the showjumping.

Darfield’s Aisling Rayne led from the front aboard Maggie May to comfortably win the CNC95, while Stephanie Matthews and Troublemaker took out the CNC80, both finishing on their dressage scores.
