The CCI 2* Bates Intermediate Championship riders experienced the worst of the Taupo weather and most of the action! Only 13 of the field of 21 will go through to contest the show jumping tomorrow and the leader board has experienced a serious shake up with the five eliminations and three retirements across the board.

Jessica Woods riding Defies Logic had a beautiful, clean ride inside the time which lifted her from third after dressage to first, going into day three. Diane Gilder on Your Attorney had only 0.4 of a time penalty and are now lying in second place on a score of 58.7. Georgia Dufty riding the 10 year old mare Charlton Tabloid were clear inside the time and sitting in a comfortable third place on 62.4. Fraser King and Diego KSNZ one of only six combinations to go clear and inside the time have moved up from fourteenth after dressage to fourth.

It was a different story in the CCI 3* class as Donna Smith stamped her authority and kept a hold of her first place after a masterful ride on Balmoral Tangolooma, only adding 4.4 time penalties to her overnight score of 50.0. An unfortunate refusal by last year’s champion Emily Cammock and Dambala meant they dropped down to eighth place, allowing Bryce Newman and Bates Trademark to take over second spot.

Annabel Wigley had a lovely round on the 10 year old NRM Frog Rock jumping from ninth after dressage to third with 67.1. Matthew Grayling aboard Christen Hayde’s mare Tandarra Sweet As go into the final phase in fourth spot.

Tomorrow’s CCI 3* show jumping will be taking place in the main arena at 1pm, followed by the CCI 2* at 2.15pm.
