The FEI has announced an adverse analytical finding (AAF) involving an equine prohibited substance during the eventing at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
Tine Magnus’s horse Dia Van Het Lichterveld Z, who competed at the Paris Olympic Games for the Belgium team, has tested positive for Trazodone, listed on the FEI’s prohibited substances list.
The Belgian team of Tine, Karin Donckers and Lara De Liedekerke-Meier, that finished fourth in the team standings at Paris 2024, will now be disqualified.
“An adverse analytical finding (AAF) from one team member during the Olympic Games, will lead to the disqualification of the whole team. Hence, team Belgium will be disqualified from the Eventing team competition of the Paris Olympic Games” says the FEI statement.
“The athlete has been provisionally suspended from the date of notification, until the FEI Tribunal renders its decision. The horse has also been provisionally suspended for two months from the date of notification”
Tine has responded on her Instagram page saying "With great surprise and sadness I learned of a positive doping result for my horse”
"Together with the Belgian Equestrian Federation and my team, we will look for the cause of this result, which is also surprising to me," she wrote on Instagram.
"I assure you that I or any of my team have never used any form of doping. I am a sportswoman who values honesty and I will do everything I can to prove that."
The Belgian Equestrian Federation also says it is "very surprised".
"Although all horses were tested in advance, everything was done to avoid exactly this, we are now unfortunately faced with this situation, which has an impact on the entire team. We are looking for clarification and analysing the facts. We want to know all the details and, together with Tine, we are finding out what exactly could have happened."
