British Eventing has announced the appointment of Philip Surl as Assistant to the Eventing Performance Manager, Yogi Breisner.
The role, which was recently advertised, will enable Yogi Breisner to focus on the Performance Programme riders of the Lottery Funded BEF World Class Programme while Philip will gradually take over the World Class Programme’s Eventing Equine Pathway and the British Eventing Nations Cup Squads.
The FEI Eventing Nations Cup™ series which began in 2012 gathered momentum in its first year and will consist of seven events in 2013. The British team contested three Nations Cup Eventing competitions in 2012, winning the home event at Houghton Hall (GBR) in May to finish fifth in the overall standings.

On the British Eventing website, Yogi commented that “I have worked closely with Philip through the coach development work he has undertaken and knew him well when he was competing. He will be a talented addition to the Programme and I look forward to working with him over the coming months. The CICO Squad that will compete in the Nations Cup competitions will be great proving ground for riders pushing for senior selection and will broaden the reach of the World Class Programme. The Equine Pathway is a well established Programme, with the coaching sessions oversubscribed; we are however always looking at how we can improve and refine the support we provide.”
Philip has competed up to 4* level and is also a UKCC Level 3 qualified coach. He is currently British Eventing’s Regional Co-ordinator for the East Region, a role he will continue for the foreseeable future
