New Equestran Australia eventing squads announced

Equestrian Australia has announced the new national squads for eventing, dressage, jumping and para-equestrian, organised in accordance with new criteria which align more closely with Australia’s Winning Edge – the high performance strategy of the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS).

The new structure includes two tiers – High Performance and Recognition, with categories and specific selection criteria for each. View the Recognition Squads here

The High Performance Squads will include riders and/or combinations identified as having the potential to represent Australia at a major championships (Olympic/Paralympic Games and/or World Equestrian Games) between 2016-2020. High Performance Squads for each Olympic/Paralympic discipline are categorised into three groups – Gold, Green and Generation Next. 

Gold (AIS Athlete Category – Podium and Podium Potential A)

Athletes and/or athlete and horse combinations that have achieved medal performances at the most recent World Equestrian Games and also considered capable of a medal performance at Rio Olympic Games. (AIS Athlete Category – Podium)

Or

Athletes and/or athlete and horse combinations who were members of a team and placed 4th to 8th or Individual Top 20 finishes at the most recent World Equestrian Games/and or Olympic Games and considered capable of progressing to AIS Athlete Category - Podium. (AIS Athlete Category – Podium Potential A)

Green (AIS Athlete Category – Podium Potential B)

Athlete and/or Athlete and Horse Combinations considered capable of progressing to Gold (AIS Athlete Category - Podium or Podium Potential A) within the next 4 years. (AIS Athlete Category – Podium Potential B)

Next (AIS Athlete Category - Developing A and Emerging A)

Athlete who is considered capable of progressing to at least Green (AIS Athlete Category - Podium Potential B) within the next 2 years. (AIS Athlete Category -Developing A)

Or

Athlete who is considered capable of progressing to at least Green (AIS Athlete Category –Developing A) within the next 2 years. (AIS Athlete Category – Emerging A)

In order to be eligible to be nominated as part of the 2016 Australian Olympic Shadow Team athletes must be named in the Equestrian Australia High Performance Squads. 

 

High Performance Squads – Olympic

These are current as of 1 July 2015

These squads are announced as provisional, until completion of the rider’s agreement.

Whilst the squads will typically be reviewed every six months, selectors reserve their rights to add additional athlete and/or athlete and horse combinations at any time.The Eventing squads are;
