Athens Olympian Rebel Morrow has thrown her support behind a potential bid for Brisbane to host the Olympic Games in 2028.

Brisbane Lord Mayor Grahame Quirk raised the proposal, and it’s set to be discussed at the next Council of Mayors meeting in March.

Ms Morrow said it would be a dream come true to represent her country at an Olympic Games held in her home State of Queensland.

“I’m currently making a bid for the Rio Olympics in 2016, and if Brisbane has the Games in 2028…. I’ll be there! It would be amazing to compete against the worlds best riders on home soil,” Ms Morrow said.

She said that competing at the Olympic Games is an amazing experience.

“Whether or not you’re competing, Olympics Games have a way of bringing people together and fostering community spirit.

“As an athlete it was indescribable buzz to compete in Athens, a high like no other. And even as a spectator at the Sydney Olympics Games, I remember everyone from the spectators and athletes, to people on the street being in a good mood"

The Olympic bid for Brisbane also has the support of Queensland International Three Day Event President, Dr Cameron Osborne.

“The Sydney Olympics did wonders for the sport of eventing. Not only did the Aussie team take the gold, which inspired riders around the world, but Australia was left with a world class facility at the Sydney International Equestrian Centre. SIEC caters beautifully for horse, rider and spectator alike, it’s used year in year out, and we’d welcome similar facilities here in Queensland,” Dr Osborne said.
