Will it be ready in time?
FEI President Ingmar De Vos has admitted to being disappointed regarding the progress of the equestrian facilities at the Rio 2016 Deodoro complex
A new construction contractor has been appointed following the cancellation last month of the original contract with Ibeg Engenharia, who was in charge of overseeing construction at both the equestrian and tennis venues.
With preparations already well behind schedule, there are concerns regarding whether the facilities will be ready for the arrival of the first horses on July 29th and there are also reports of very low ticket sales across the board. However, with Brazil going through its worst recession for 25 years, De Vos has told insidethegames that
“We need to be realistic and understand the situation and the context of the economic crisis. This is one of the disadvantages of awarding the Games so far beforehand"
"We were assured that a contract has now been signed with a new construction company."But we have ongoing concerns and are continuing to monitor the situation closely."
