No visa required for Rio 2016

If you’re aiming to head to Rio this year for the Olympic Games, things just got easier for the supporters of four countries with equestrian teams

A recently approved law authorising the temporary exemption from visas during the Rio 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games means that visitors from Australia, Canada, Japan and the United States will not require a visa to enter Brazil

The exemption will last from 1st June to September 18th 2016 and will see visitors from these countries granted an automatic 90-day visa

A number of other countries including those from the European Union were already allowed to enter the country for up to 90 days without a visa but Brazil is hoping that the inclusion of the four countries that have a strong Olympic tradition will increase the interest in visiting Brazil during this time

Visitors do not have to be attending the Olympic Games or hold tickets to be eligible as long as they are passport holders from one of the approved countries

The Olympic Games will take place from 5th – 21st August with the Paralympic Games following on from 7th – 18th September
