Saturday at Colac Horse Trials

As the sun struggled to make an appearance between the clouds of an overcast sky, it was Victoria’s finest eventers who really shone on day one of the Colac Horse Trials. Chelsea Priestley has taken an early lead in the CNC 1* on her beautiful Hannoverian gelding Ashleigh Longtime, sitting on 48.90 penalties. Fresh from his 2* win at Goulburn, Will Enzinger rode Bvlgari to receive 49.20 penalties putting him just behind the leader. Simon Tainsh is currently on 51.50 in 3rd position on Just De Manzana after a lovely, well balanced test.

Will Enzinger leads the way in the Pre-Novice class, as he sits in first and second position on Glenwood Park Nichols & Dimes and Pop the Question on 40.20 and 43.80 respectively. Natalie Davies sits in third position on 44.40 after a promising test on Chatswood Captivate

Amber Cargill produced a fantastic test to take the lead in the Pony Club Grade 1 class on Sea Student to be on a score of 32.92. Sarah May sits in second spot on a score of 37.50 after a lovely test on her Irish Sport Horse Revelin. Lucinda Doodt and Somerville Park Pollyanna are on 41.67 in third place.

The Preliminary A class is led once again by Will Enzinger riding Cooper to a score of 37.20. Natalie Davies on Chatswood Carlos and Jacqueline Boyle on Tomahawk Tom share second place on 40.80. In the Preliminary B, Natalie Davies takes the lead on 46.20 on Jaybee Cardinal. Sharon Ridgway riding Collage sits in second on 51.60 and Jacquie Bladier is in third place on Tichino Fiorucci on 54.00 penalties.

Lucinda James on Platinum Cruise still lead the Introductory A after a lovely test and clear show jumping round to be on 33.00 penalties ahead of tomorrow’s cross country. Catherine Martindale and Hazelwood Misfit also jumped clear and sit in second place on their dressage score of 39.60. In third position is Yvette Cashmore on Remlif Park Wizard on 43.80. Janelle Miller and Eskimo Joe produced a winning test and a clear round to maintain the lead in the Introductory B on 38.40 penalties. Chelsea Priestley sits in second on Loki-Motion on 42.60 and Kerrie Standish and Just Delicious are in third on 43.80.

In the Pony Club grade 2 Caitlin Barrett and Chatswood Tango sit on 28 after the dressage. Laura Bell and Harvey Norman are in second on 30.00 and Stephanie Hibburt and J Star Bushranger are in third on 32.00.

The Grade 3 Pony Club section also show jumped today and Stephanie Thornton and Foreal jumped clear to maintain their lead on fantastic penalty score of 19.29. Elle Price and Porta also jumped clear to be in second on 26.43 as did Genevieve Nicholson and Buckwell Park Archer to be on 27.14 in third position.

Some fantastic dressage was on display today and riders are sure to be tested tomorrow as they face the cross country. The going is great and with the course boasting a brand new $10,000 water jump, spectators will surely be in for a treat. The cross country starts at 9am with the Grade 2 class starting off. The 1* riders will show jump first and can be seen on cross country from 12.20 and we’ll bring you tomorrow’s highlights here on An Eventful Life
