Megan Jones tells us that the weather in the UK is still “misty and damp”; no such problems at Quirindi in NSW today where the winter sun shone down.
John Lechner is providing Twitter coverage during the day for us (@eventfulifebook) and will be doing a weekend wrap after the event but in the meantime here are a few of his photos from today and the scores so far.
A quick look at the results show that, while some of our top riders are overseas, others who have stayed behind are bringing on their young horses. It just goes to show that the work never ends and that whenever a door closes another one will open if you work hard enough and have the talent these guys have.
In the CCI 2* Emma Mason and the very lovely Poker Face lead after dressage and cross country. Although a small class there is no doubt that this is a combination for the future
Another one to watch is Stuart Tinney’s ride in the EVA 105 (PreNovice for those not working on NSW terms yet). Stuart is currently lying second after dressage and a clear showjumping round on the black horse Annapurna, a half sister to Stuart’s 4* horse Pluto Mio. Annapurna is out of the same dam as Pluto by the sire Donnerblitz (World Cup dressage and showjumpers in this sire’s line) and is also owned by John and Jane Pittard, the owners of Pluto Mio. This class has a few big guns in it with Craig Barrett on two horses, Christine Bates on the horse with a great name (GP Kung Fu Panda), Ali Foye and Lauren Balcomb. Lauren, riding Kinnordy Rubino (previously ridden by Chris Burton, if memory serves me correctly?) was leading after dressage but unfortunately had 20 penalties in the showjumping so will not be happy about that!
