It was a hot 34 degrees at the first CIC event of the Australian season, Tonimbuk Horse Trials, but for eventers in the UK it was a very different story at Tweseldown, Hampshire which ran from 7th – 10th March. The weather once again played havoc with events in England with lots of competitors staying away and competition on Sunday 10th March at Somerford Park in Cheshire abandoned.
As Chris Burton wryly commented on Twitter (yes, Chris is now getting with the trend, follow him @TeamBurto) “Another day playing in the pig pen” and, thanks to another of our bloggers and Tweeters who also braved the elements, Laura Wallace (@burwoodeventing), you can see why from the above photo

However, apart from the dressage warm up area apparently the going was pretty good on cross country at Tweseldown and certainly wouldn’t have been as firm as that at Tonimbuk! Unfortunately on Saturday, Lucinda Fredericks had a fall from Rovello during cross country. Rovello appears to be fine but Lucinda was taken to hospital where it was discovered she had a broken collar bone and three broken ribs (Ouch! Obviously the going wasn't that soft!) which required a few days in hospital. We wish her a speedy recovery and back in the saddle soon
On Thursday several of the big names were out and about; here are some shots thanks to Rachel Wakefield of Uptown Eventing
