Eventing focus at FEI Sports Forum

After the recent discussion and changes regarding penalty points and frangible pins in eventing rules, more new initiatives have been raised by the FEI to be discussed at the FEI Sports Forum

One of the sessions tabled for the FEI Sports Forum, taking place on 27th & 28th April in Lausanne, is Eventing Future to be held on the Monday afternoon. The speakers will be Giuseppe Della Chiesa, Chair FEI Eventing Committee, Catrin Norinder, FEI Eventing Director and Olympic, and Charles Barnett, Former Chief Executive of Ascot Racecourse.

Charles Barnett, who has been largely credited with the development of Ascot as the flagship of European racing during a period of increasing public concern over horse welfare, has been asked to “conduct an audit into Eventing with the purpose of identifying factors that may affect Eventing as an Olympic Sport including safety of horse and rider and exploration of all areas of the sport to maintain its current position including further development of the sport” by the FEI

The panellists are Daisy Berkeley (GBR) – Athlete Representative, Patricia Clifton (GBR), Marcin Konarski (POL), Gillian Rolton (AUS) and Rüdiger   Schwarz (GER)

The document covering the items tabled for discussion covers three main areas;

I  The Audit of Eventing

II  Olympic Format Eventing (Preliminary Proposal from the Eventing Committee)

III  Future of Eventing

The FEI Sports Forum is open to attendance by any interested parties and you can find out more in the full Programme here and you can view the full document regarding the Eventing Session here

Even if you can’t get to Lausanne you can still have your say by leaving comments below or on the FEI Forum page here

There has already been some discussion on social media around the eventing community with the Eventing Riders Association International sounding not too happy about some proposed changes ..
