“When you are competing it’s all about getting over the jump but when it comes to schooling you must be patient and take your time. This will help to build your horses confidence and your own and a water jump will simply be another fence on the course,” said Chris Burton as he explained his thoughts on teaching your horse to jump into water.
Take a look at the video below to hear more from Chris Burton.
Now let's put the theory into practise ...
Step 1: Let the horse take his time going into the water and allow him to have a walk around
Step 2: Pop over a fence on the way to the water then continue moving through the water and out over another fence
Step 3: Drop into the water and keep moving through the water
Congratulations - your horse should now be able to approach the water jump with confidence.
Keep a watch out for more Chris Burton tips - coming up soon.
