Living Legends Super Clinic Friday 21st – Sunday 23rd February 2014
February 21st – 23rd will see the return of the Living Legends Super Clinic to Western Australia. Last year’s Living Legends Super Clinic demonstrated that when two international trainers work, not just alongside each other, but together, the results can be remarkable. The Lucinda Green and Andrew McLean master class was not only highly informative and entertaining it was also inspirational.
Lucinda and Andrew at last years 'Super Clinic'
Lucinda Green has well and truly earned the title of living legend: she won Badminton Horse Trials six times on six different horses, she has been world champion and an Olympic silver medalist. Andrew’s equestrian achievements are also impressive: winner of the Eureka Science Prize, best selling author and much sought after clinician; he also represented his country in eventing and is well known for developing an evidence based training system.
The Super Clinic was fascinating because it brought together two potentially very different training systems; one honed by competitive practice and experience and the other, no less practical, but based on scientific principles. Over the two days Andrew and Lucinda worked separately with groups of riders; Lucinda focused on preparing eventing horses for cross country while Andrew helped riders of all disciplines consolidate their horse’s basic training through the application of evidence based learning theory. The Super Clinic culminated in an evening master class with both trainers in the arena working together. During this unrehearsed event the trainers shared their knowledge and experience, each from their own quite different perspective. They took turns to explain their techniques and shared exercises and tips while working with a range of horse and rider combinations from Introductory (65cms) to 3* level.
Jon Pitts, who is no stranger to WA, will be an added attraction to the weekend
This year’s Super Clinic is set to be bigger and better than before. Sports scientist and human performance expert Jon Pitts will join Lucinda and Andrew at Western Australia’s State Equestrian Centre for clinics and education sessions. Jon has worked with athletes from a wide range of sports including cricket, golf, free diving and tennis. His unique perspective and focus on the human aspect of equestrian performance will round out the Super Clinic coaching line up, giving spectators the opportunity to watch three world experts doing what they do best.
The Super Clinic will run throughout the weekend, kicking off on Friday 21st February at 6.30pm with a wine and cheese night at Horseland Midland. Come along and meet Lucinda, Andrew and Jon at this fun and informal gathering. Saturday 22nd February will be a fantastic day for horse lovers! All three of our coaches will be presenting ridden clinics at the State Equestrian Centre alongside some of WA’s local experts who will offer a series of fascinating lectures and demonstrations. There will also be a trade village with lots of opportunity for retail therapy and plenty of snacks and refreshments available. The highlight of the day will be a master class on Saturday night starting at 7pm. During this event Lucinda and Andrew will work together on a range of different horse and rider combinations while Jon takes the microphone as MC. All three coaches will be available afterwards for a casual question and answer session in the bar. General admission and VIP tickets are available. On Sunday 23rd February our coaches will be back at work providing lessons and coaching sessions to local riders.
