Last weekend I had the pleasure of interviewing Lucinda Green who was bemoaning the fact that Australian eventers seemed to be riding fewer thoroughbreds as she believes that horses with mainly thoroughbred bloodlines are still the best option for eventing
On the same weekend Australian dressage rider Brett Parbery entered, and won, his first eventing competition at Wallaby Hill ODE. Brett is better known for his success in the national and international dressage arena on warmblood horses; at the 2010 Alltech World Equestrian Games in Kentucky, Brett and Victory Salute placed 9th place in the Grand Prix Freestyle – the best ever result by an Australian dressage combination
At Wallaby Hill Brett rode in the EVA95 class and won on a score of 34.3, having led (maybe not surprisingly) from the start on a dressage score of 21.1 (the next closest dressage score was 36.1) riding the brown thoroughbred My Thai.
We thought it would be nice to see what a 21.1 looks like at this level and maybe pick up a few pointers and Tinney Eventing, owners of My Thai, kindly supplied us with the footage (sorry, it's a bit shaky)
My Thai is a six year old by the former multiple Group One winner, Our Maizcay, and has been campaigned so far by Stuart Tinney. As Brett says in our interview with him, he’s on ‘borrowed time’ as My Thai is for sale so if you’re looking for a thoroughbred who can score well in dressage (provided of course you can ride like Brett)as well as doing well in the other phases, maybe you should contact Tinney Eventing.
