Trotting off to Mardi Gras

The team behind the Hot to Trot float are happy to report that their float is now full with various people all in some way related to equestrian sports.

“It’s going to be a great night,” said Fiona Hughes who, together with fellow eventer Shaun Dillon, came up with the idea of an equestrian float at Mardi Gras. “We now have 50 riders, dancers, supporters and vets, including Derek Major, so if we go lame we’ll have someone to help us out!”

Other names including our own bloggers Charlie Brister, Natalie Blundell and Emma Mason are also joining in the action together with photographer John Lechner, who will be taking along a couple of cameras to cover all the actions. "As soon as I heard about this I put my hand up to come along and take photos and I'm really looking forward to it," said John.  We just hope John's outfit has allowed for somewhere to stick his second camera!

At the beginning the horse was white

“As this is all new territory for us we really don’t know what to expect but we’re sure it’s going to be a lot of fun and very spectacular. We are so lucky to have had the help of the wonderful Anwen Keeling who has been busy painting her ‘Equestriad’ horses heads. Lots of people have been helping us get organised at our working bees. We’ve been practicing our dance routine, which should be hilarious and I’m really looking forward to Saturday night,” said Fiona.

Add a bit of colour and you have a Mardi Gras horse

For those people who would like to go along to cheer and support the equestrian float a dedicated standing room area in The Flinders Seats compound, has been created exclusively for Parade Entrants Friends and Family. This is in addition to the seated area, which is already on sale. So supporters have two choices of getting the best view of the Parade, with easy access to bars, great food, and bathrooms.

The Flinders Seats will be hosted by the fabulous Trevor Ashley and Rhonda Burchmore, who will provide commentary through the entire Parade. There will also be video screens so they can see all the action and spectacle in close up. The Parade Entrants Friends and Family standing area and the Flinders Seats are fully wheelchair accessible and a great choice for families who want to see the Parade without having to deal with the crowds.

It's been important to put in some practise with the hobby horses!

There are a limited number of tickets available to this exclusive Parade Entrants Friends and Family standing area in the Flinders Seats, for $60+BF.

Acceptance, tolerance and understanding has always been a part of equestrian culture and we think this is a great initiative so we would hope that all those involved with the Equestrian Hot to Trot float have a wonderful time and we can’t wait to hear all about it and see the photos next week!
