Top names such as Sandra Auffarth, Dirk Schrade, Ludwig Svennerstal, Thomas Carlile and Elaine Pen tackled the double arena cross country course at the CSI Geneve in the first international indoor cross country course in Switzerland but it was the French rider Eddie Sans who took the honours riding Nankin De La Hurie in a time of 117.70 to win the 5,000 Swiss francs and the inaugural title.
The course which moved between the huge main arena (5'200m2) and the training arena was built by Peter Hasenböhler, the assistant course designer to Rüdiger Schwarz of the Aachen CICO, to include log fences, bushes, brush fences, shark teeth, as well as the current bank and lake, both famous attributes of the Geneva arena.
Although Eddie set a good time clear early on it was the later riders who challenged with the Nethlands’ Tim Lips riding Bayro and Thomas Carlile riding Sirocco du Gers who came so close
Sandra Auffarth looked a little hesitant in places but still came fifth riding Thalia L´amaurial while Karim Florent Laghouag riding Pegase Du Tuc took fourth place
This is how they did it
